Twenty-eight years. That's how long my family and I have lived in apartment 226/227. That's how long it's been our home. Back then, our daughters were ages three and one when we first moved in to our new three-bedroom two-bath apartment. We had fallen in love with the size -- a massive 1800 sq ft space that had been combined from two smaller apartments a few years before. We settled in and as months turned to years and as we laughed together, shed a few tears together and most importantly, grew together we made the space our own. We turned the southern facing wing into a singular childrens suite with two private sleeping areas separated by a center playroom for the girls to enjoy. (That room, by the way, can easily be split into 3 separate bedrooms or converted to a sun-filled living room but more about that in a bit.) We also carved out another area for our master bedroom and, more recently, we turned one of the other rooms into an oversized home office. Now that the girls have become grown (and delightful) women, weve decided its time for us to downsize. And it's time to turn over this wonderful place to someone else who will fill it with their own stories. We could have renovated it before deciding to sell. But given the myriad of imaginative ways to re-create this space, we decided to leave that in your hands. We did, however, want to give you a head start.
